Buccaneers Add Veteran Receiver Sterling Shepard
One-Year Deal Bolsters Receiving Corps
Preseason Finale Against Dolphins Wraps Up Preseason
TAMPA, Fla. - The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have signed wide receiver Sterling Shepard to a one-year deal, the team announced Monday.
Shepard, 29, is a seven-year NFL veteran who has spent the majority of his career with the New York Giants. He was selected by the Giants in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft and has since caught 360 passes for 4,034 yards and 25 touchdowns.
The Buccaneers are hoping that Shepard can provide some much-needed experience to their receiving corps. The team lost Chris Godwin to a torn ACL in Week 1 of the 2022 season, and Mike Evans is now 30 years old. Shepard will likely compete for a starting role alongside Evans and Russell Gage.
Shepard is coming off a down year in 2022, but he has shown flashes of being a very good receiver in the past. In 2021, he caught 72 passes for 882 yards and five touchdowns. He also had a 1,000-yard season in 2018.
The Buccaneers are hoping that Shepard can rediscover his old form in Tampa Bay. If he can, he could be a valuable addition to an offense that is already one of the most potent in the NFL.
Shepard's Impact on the Buccaneers
