Embiid to Miss Game With Knee Injury
76ers Center Set to Undergo MRI
Philadelphia's All-Star Big Man Out for Thursday's Matchup
The Philadelphia 76ers have announced that All-Star center Joel Embiid will miss Thursday's game against the New York Knicks due to a knee injury. Embiid is expected to undergo an MRI later today to determine the severity of the injury.
"We're going to be cautious with him," said 76ers coach Doc Rivers. "We don't want to rush him back and have this become a bigger problem."
The injury is a significant blow to the 76ers, who are already without reigning Sixth Man of the Year Tyrese Maxey due to a foot injury. Embiid is averaging 33.6 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game this season.
With Embiid out, the 76ers will likely start Paul Reed at center. Reed has started two games this season and is averaging 6.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game.
The 76ers are currently 21-13 on the season and are tied for second place in the Eastern Conference. They will face the Knicks, who are 18-16 on the season, at the Wells Fargo Center on Thursday night.
