TAMPA, Fla. -- Steven Stamkos and the Tampa Bay Lightning have agreed to a five-year, $37.5 million contract, the team announced Friday. The deal includes a $7 million signing bonus and an average annual salary of $7.5 million.
Stamkos, 28, is entering the final year of a five-year, $35 million contract he signed with the Lightning in 2014. He has been one of the NHL's most productive players since entering the league in 2008, scoring 350 goals and adding 453 assists in 746 regular-season games.
The Lightning are hopeful that Stamkos will help them continue their recent playoff success. The team has reached the Eastern Conference Finals in each of the past three seasons, and they are the favorites to win the Stanley Cup this year.
