Borussia Dortmund's hopes of a strong Bundesliga finish were dealt a blow as they suffered a humiliating 4-1 defeat at the hands of RB Leipzig. The Champions League semi-finalists were outplayed from start to finish as Leipzig dominated the game with their impressive attacking play.
Leipzig took the lead through Christopher Nkunku in the 12th minute, who doubled his tally just before half-time with a clinical finish. After the break, it was a one-sided affair as Emil Forsberg and Dani Olmo added further goals for Leipzig, making it 4-0. Dortmund eventually got a consolation goal through Marius Wolf, but it was too little too late.
The defeat leaves Dortmund in fifth place in the Bundesliga standings, eight points behind leaders Bayern Munich. The result also dents their hopes of securing an automatic Champions League spot next season, as they now face a battle to finish in the top four.
